Ironstone Downs Casino Hotel is a fictional Australian casino hotel on a decommissioned sheep station: twenty-four desert casino hotel suites strung along a creek line, a kitchen that cooks what grows here, and a seven-table casino in the old woolshed — the only cool dark room for four hundred kilometres.

Ironstone Downs is imagined as a casino hotel that had to be built for the heat before it could be built for anything else.
Twenty-four suites face east along a dry creek so they take the morning and lose the afternoon. The homestead verandah runs the full length of the building. The old woolshed, which has metre-thick stone walls and no windows on the western side, turned out to be the coolest structure on the property — so that is where the casino went. Nobody comes to this casino hotel for the casino. They come for the quiet, and then some of them walk over after dinner.

Rammed earth walls half a metre thick, deep verandahs on every side, and louvres instead of glass wherever the wind can be used. No casino hotel suite here needs air conditioning before three in the afternoon.

The casino occupies the 1888 shearing floor: stone walls, the original board, seven casino tables and a bar where the wool press stood. There are no poker machines in this casino and no screens anywhere in it. When the doors are open you can hear the country outside, which is the whole point of putting a casino here.

No. Ironstone Downs Casino Hotel is an invented Australian casino hotel, built to demonstrate casino hotel content and responsive web design. It takes no bookings, holds no casino licence and processes no payments. The station, the rates and the casino are all fictional.
Not easily. Casinos in Australia are licensed state by state, and each state and territory has issued only a small number of casino licences — usually one or two, held by large operators in capital cities and a few regional centres. A new casino on a sheep station would need a licence that does not currently exist, granted by the relevant state regulator.

Eighteen is the minimum gambling age in every Australian state and territory, and casinos are required to refuse entry to anyone who cannot prove it. In this concept the casino is open to hotel guests and to verified adult visitors, subject to capacity.
